India women exited the Uber Cup 2026 after a 0-5 defeat to defending champions China in their final Group A tie in Horsens, Denmark, on Monday night. The team needed a win to reach the quarterfinals, but could not convert close matches.
Former world champion PV Sindhu returned for the opening singles and pushed world no 2 Wang Zhi Yi to three games. Sindhu led 18-12 in the decider but Wang claimed seven straight points and closed the match soon after, sealing India’s early setback.

Isharani Baruah challenged former Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei in the second singles. She lost a tight first game 20-22 and then went down 13-21. In the third singles, Devika Sihag started well but could not maintain control against Xu Wen Jing.
Devika took the opening game 21-19 against Xu but lost momentum. Xu took the next two games 21-17, 21-10. Earlier, Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra struggled in the first doubles, losing in straight games to Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning.
The second doubles pairing of Tanisha Crasto and Kavipriya Selvam gave India brief hope. The scratch duo dominated the opening game 21-10 against Luo Xu Min and Zhang Shu Xian. However, the Chinese pair recovered to take the next games 21-12 and 21-19.
Earlier in Group A, India had lost 2-3 to hosts Denmark in a close tie. They then defeated Ukraine 5-0 to stay alive in the quarterfinal race. The loss to China ended those hopes, with the defending champions proving too strong overall.
