US Open Super 300: Lakshya Sen, Tanvi Sharma Headline India Squad; Sindhu, Satwik-Chirag Skip

India's challenge at the US Open Super Badminton Tournament in California will be spearheaded by Lakshya Sen and rising star Tanvi Sharma as the competition gets underway. World No. 14 Lakshya, seeded second, is set to face Belgium's Julien Carraggi in his opening men's singles match. Fifth seed Kidambi Srikanth, a former World Championships silver medallist, will take on Chinese Taipei's Liao Jhuo-Fu in the first round.

Meanwhile, Saneeth Dayanand will go up against Japan's fourth seed Yudai Okimoto, and S. Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian will meet a qualifier in the round of 32. India also has a strong presence in women's singles, with seven players in the main draw. The contingent is led by fifth seed Tanvi Sharma and sixth seed Devika Sihag. Tanvi, just 17, will begin her campaign against Germany's Yvonne Li.

US Open Badminton Super 300: Major Misses

Defending champion Ayush Shetty will not be back to defend his men's singles title at this year's US Open, while former winner HS Prannoy has also opted out of the tournament. With PV Sindhu skipping the event as well, India's women's singles campaign will be led by a young group featuring Anmol Kharb, Tanvi Sharma and Aakarshi Kashyap.

In women's doubles, Commonwealth Games medallists Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will be India's sole representatives. The pair recently returned to competition at the Indonesia Open after Treesa completed a three-month recovery from injury. Although they missed the following two events, they are now set to compete at the US Open.

India will not have any participants in the men's doubles category. Asian Games champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty remain sidelined, with Satwik still recovering from an injury picked up at the Indonesia Open earlier this month. In mixed doubles, Dhruv Rawat and Maneesha K will be the only Indian pair in action.
