By MyKhel Staff

India's hopes at the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2025 ended as men's doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were defeated by Malaysia's world No. 2 pair, Nur Izzuddin and Goh Sze Fei, in the semifinals of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall.

The Indian pair, returning to the circuit after Satwik's injury, began strongly, leading 15-12 in the first game. However, a seven-point streak by the Malaysians turned the tide. Satwik's smash error sealed the opening game at 21-18.

The second game saw the Indians struggle, falling behind 2-8 before a brief comeback attempt. Despite their efforts, Izzuddin and Goh exploited the Indians' serve weaknesses, clinching the match 21-18, 21-14 in 37 minutes.

The Malaysians will now face South Korea's Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae, who edged past Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia 22-20, 21-19 in the other semifinal. In the women's singles semifinals, Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Japan's Tomoka Miyazaki.

After losing the first game 11-21 and trailing 14-19 in the second, Chochuwong saved three match points and secured the second game 24-22. She maintained composure in the decider to win 21-19 in a grueling 73-minute match.

She will face South Korea's Olympic champion An Se Young in the final. An overcame Indonesia's Gregoria Mariska Tunjung 21-19, 21-16. The women's doubles final will see South Korea's Kim Hye Jeong and Kong Hee Yong take on Japan's Arisa Igarashi and Ayako Sakuramoto.

Meanwhile, in mixed doubles, France's Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue will compete against China's Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin for the title. India's Satwik and Chirag, ranked ninth globally, reflected on their performance, with Chirag acknowledging their struggles in countering Malaysia's service tactics.
