Injury and Recovery
She competed at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo with an injury to her right leg. Despite this setback, she continued to push forward, demonstrating resilience and determination. Her journey into Para cycling began when she met a college friend who worked at a bike shop and encouraged her to modify a bike.
Transition to Para Cycling
After completing her studies, she worked as a travel guide, leading hiking and cycling tours around the US and Europe. This job connected her with US Paralympics in May 2018. She attended a Talent Identification camp for cycling and rediscovered her athletic prowess.
Personal Life and Coaching
Her partner Noah Middlestaedt is also her coach. "It's actually a really good thing for both of us because we can share so much," she said. "We share our training, our lives, everything. I love having him with me." This partnership has improved their communication significantly.
Ambitions and Philosophy
She aims to compete at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. Her family and friends have been significant influences on her journey. She believes in pushing herself harder than everyone else, a philosophy that has paid off in her career.
Other Activities
She has served as an ambassador for Outride, an organisation that runs cycling programmes for children to improve social and mental health. In 2023, she began private pilot training, inspired by her father and step-mother, who are both pilots.
Pilot Training
"It has been a ton to manage while also riding my bike full-time," she said about her pilot training. "Flying has been such a wonderful break from the cycling world." She finds fulfilment in this new activity that stimulates her brain as much as cycling demands from her physically.
