1983 World Cup winners to inspire team India through 'Jeetenge Hum' campaign ahead of ODI World Cup

The ICC ODI World Cup will be taking place in the country from October this year. The Indian team will be aiming to replicate the 2011 heroics and lift the title on home soil.

It has been over a decade for the Indian team without an ICC trophy, and a home World Cup adds anticipation and expectation from the billions of supporters. And to bolster team India's morale, the 1983 World Cup winners have decided to chip in.

The veterans, who lifted the World Cup for the first time for India some 40 years ago, have collaborated with the Adani group for 'Jeetenge Hum' campaign prior to the World Cup. On the Adani Day, the players from the World Cup winning team of 1983 were felicitated in Ahmedabad and inducted for a mission to inspire the current team.

"Cricket is a binding force in our country invoking a wide spectrum of emotions. Legends are not born, they are made through resilience and perseverance. Team India must have had both these attributes that led us to win the World Cup in 1983."

"With the hope of seeing history repeat itself, join us and the legends in wishing the Indian Cricket Team for the upcoming World Cup through #JeetengeHum," said Mr Gautam Adani, Chairman, Adani Group.

Cricketing legend and the captain of the 1983 winning squad Kapil Dev said, "We are honoured to unite with the Adani Group in rallying Team India for the ODI World Cup 2023. This campaign symbolizes the excitement and the indomitable spirit that propelled us to victory in 1983."

The true measure of success lies not solely in the outcome, but in the unwavering dedication to the relentless pursuit of personal excellence," he added.

Echoing similar sentiments, Roger Binny, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said, "Being part of the 1983 World Cup-winning team was an incredible journey filled with determination and team spirit. Together, we believe in the potential of our current players to bring back the coveted trophy. Let's unite as fans and inspire them to create history!"

The program witnessed a captivating moment as the 1982 World Cup winners got a great reception from the Adani group and were felicitated for the completion of 40th anniversary of their World Cup win.
