India vs Sri Lanka 2017 3rd Test Score, Commentary
Mathews (111) and Chandimal (147 n.o, 341b, 18x4, 1x6) shared a wonderful 181-run alliance for the fourth wicket but Indian bowlers came back strongly in the final session to pick wickets at regular intervals. Sri Lanka were 356 for nine when the play was called off due to poor light.
The slip fielding woes continued on day three for India as well. Rohit Sharma spilled a throat-high chance at second slip off Ishant Sharma when Mathews was on 98. The former Sri Lankan skipper soon completed his hundred.
But the burgeoning partnership ended when R Ashwin managed to find Mathews' outside edge bowling from around the wicket. Stumper Wriddhiman Saha, who had earlier failed to latch on to an edge from Mathews, made no mistake the second time.
After that wicket, Indian bowlers dominated the final session of the day taking five wickets for 100 runs.
India had declared their first innings closed at 536 for sesven after skipper Virat Kohli made an impeccable double hundred to go with a hundred by opener Murali Vijay. Rohit Sharma too contributed with a fifty.
