4th India-SA ODI: ICC names 2 Indian umpires due to 'exceptional circumstances'

Chennai, Oct 20: There will be no neutral umpire for the 4th One Day International between India and South Africa to be played in Chennai on October 22 (Thursday). The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed India's Sundaram Ravi to stand in the game.

On Monday (October 19), ICC had withdrawn Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar from the remaining ODIs of the series (4th and 5th matches) due to threats from Shiv Sena. Now, with very little time to make alternate arrangements, ICC has chosen a local umpire in Ravi, who is part of the Elite Panel of Umpires. Ravi is based in Chennai.

4th India-South Africa ODI: No neutral umpire; ICC names S Ravi

"Due to the close proximity of fixtures Sundaram Ravi, a member of the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, had previously been selected for the Pakistan versus England series, but will now stand in the fourth ODI between India and South Africa in Chennai on Thursday. Because of exceptional circumstances, both the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and CSA (Cricket South Africa) have agreed that two Indian umpires will stand in this game," ICC said on Tuesday.

As is the norm, all bilateral limited overs series will have one local umpire and a neutral on-field official (named by ICC).

The 5-match series stands 2-1 in favour of South Africa. After the 4th ODI on October 22, the 5th and final ODI is in Mumbai on Sunday (October 25).
