5000 visas to Pak officials for WC; security concerns?

By Anita
Islamabad, Mar 25: After reports emerged of a possible terror threat from the Taliban and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for the semi-final match between India and Pakistan on Mar 30 to be held in Mohali, the Ministry of Home Affairs plans to release 5000 visas for Pakistani officials visiting India to watch the matches.

But after a recent arrest by Interpol of a militant planning to attack World Cup, the predictions seem to have found ground when reports emerged that the Interpol had foiled a militant plot yesterday. The details of the identity of the man arrested was not let out.

After India's thrilling win against reigning champions Australia, the next much-anticipated game is between India and Pakistan on Mar 30 that will see the sparks flying for famed rivals on the cricket field and otherwise. When the tickets for the games are being purchased with revered fervour, the Pakistani counterparts are also keenly awaiting to watch a piece of the action.

The Home Affairs Ministry has facilitated the overseas visitors need to watch the clinching semi-final match by issuing multiple entry visas valid for a duration of 15 days for those who have bought tickets for various matches to be played in India.

But the fact remains if the exercise will lead to security breach in India when the World Cup is already marred by terror threats from militant organisations that are based out of Pakistan?
