India's 280-run win in the first Test against Bangladesh brought an end to their 92-year wait since starting to play the format. For the first time in history, the Indian cricket team has more Test wins than defeats.
The thumping win at the Chepauk is India's 179th Test win. Out of the 580 Test matches they have played till date, India have lost 178 and settled for a draw on 222 occasions. Just one Test involving India had ended in a tie.

Further, India have now become the seventh team to have a win/loss ratio of more than at least once in their Test cricket history. However, India took the maximum number of matches to achieve the feat.

New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, and Ireland are yet to join the elusive list. As of now India, Australia, England, Pakistan and South Africa are the only five nations to have a Test win/loss ratio greater than one.

India will have the opportunity to better their win/loss ratio when they take on Bangladesh in the second Test in Kanpur from September 27. India will also face New Zealand in a three-Test series in October-November. Out of the 471 Test matches New Zealand have played till date, they have lost 185 Test matches and won just 115.
