Ahmedabad, March 11: Following India's triumphant run to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 title, the latest ICC rankings update has confirmed a historic shift in the hierarchy of global cricket.
For the first time in the history of the T20I format, an Indian batting duo occupies the top two spots in the world rankings, with Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan leading the charge.

Abhishek Sharma remains the king of the mountain with 875 rating points. His explosive 21-ball 52 against New Zealand in the World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium cemented his status as the world's most dangerous T20 opener.
However, the spotlight is shared by Ishan Kishan, who has leaped into second place following a sensational knockout stage. Kishan's blitz of 39 (18) in the semifinal against England and a crucial 52 (25) in the final allowed him to leapfrog England's Phil Salt and Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan.
With only four points now separating the two teammates, Kishan is on the verge of becoming only the fourth Indian ever to reach the No. 1 spot, joining the elite company of Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Abhishek Sharma.
This feat marks the first time since September 2022 (when Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan held the spots for Pakistan) that two players from the same nation have locked out the top two positions.
The rankings reflect a tournament defined by aggressive batting and clutch performances:
Sanju Samson: The Player of the Tournament, whose incredible consistency included an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies and twin 89s in the knockouts, surged to 22nd place.
Tim Seifert: The Kiwi opener reached a career-best 6th position after firing half-centuries in both the semifinal and final.
Jacob Bethell: England's rising star climbed to 16th following a defiant century against India in the semifinals.
While India dominates the batting, the bowling rankings saw a significant changing of the guard. Despite finishing as the tournament's leading wicket-taker with 14 scalps, Varun Chakravarthy's reign at No. 1 has come to an end due to a high economy rate in the final week.
Afghanistan's talisman Rashid Khan has returned to the world number one spot, marking another chapter in his four-year legacy at the top. Meanwhile, India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah moved up to 6th following his clinical 4/15 in the final, which earned him the Player of the Match award.
