India captain Suryakumar Yadav has given a clear verdict on Abhishek Sharma and his form ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 match against South Africa.
Abhishek Sharma has had a torrid period in this T20 World Cup campaign so far, with three ducks in three matches.

But despite his lack of form, India skipper Suryakumar Yadav has dismissed the talks on Abhishek's lack of runs, saying that the entire team will cover for the India opener amid his lean period.
"About Abhishek's form, I worry for the people who are worried about Abhishek's form. I worry about them. Why are they so worried about Abhishek's form?" Surya said in the pre-match press conference in Ahmedabad on Saturday (February 21).
"Last year, Abhishek covered for all of us. Now it is our duty to cover for him. But I think about those teams who are going to play against him. That he has not yet scored a run. You know the rest of the answers. When he scores a run, you have seen what happens. It happens, it's a team sport, it keeps going on," the India captain added.
In this World Cup, Abhishek has been mostly a disappointment. He scored a duck against USA in the first match, and then scored two ducks more against Pakistan and the Netherlands, respectively. In between, the Punjab-born had a stomach issue, which led to hospitalization and a subsequent sit-out against Namibia.
Abhishek is known for his aggressive play and Surya insists that the opener will continue to implement the same approach in the coming matches as well.
"Our team requires a certain kind of game from Abhishek and he is trying to play in that manner. We never want him to lose his identity. If his method doesn't work, we are there to cover for him," he continued.
