Indian cricket fans are used to seeing Abhishek Sharma clear the ropes at will, but the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 has turned into a nightmare for the young left-hander.
After failing to score a single run in three matches, the world's top-ranked T20I batter has become the target of brutal social media trolling, most notably from the ever-witty Iceland Cricket board.

Following the conclusion of the group stage, Iceland Cricket shared their "T20 World Cup Team of the Group Stage" on X (formerly Twitter). While the list featured stars like Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan and India's Ishan Kishan, they saved a special spot for Abhishek Sharma at the very bottom, labelling him as the "Cold drinks waiter".
The cheeky post quickly went viral, highlighting the stark contrast between Sharma's massive reputation and his current scoreboard of 0, 0, 0.
Abhishek Sharma's tournament began with a golden duck against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium. Things went from bad to worse when he was hospitalized in New Delhi due to a stomach infection, causing him to miss the clash against Namibia.
Upon his return, the "duck" streak continued against Pakistan and Netherlands.
With this, Sharma set an unwanted record for the most ducks by an Indian batter in a single T20 World Cup. He also joined a small list of players in history to register three consecutive ducks in the tournament.
Bizarrely, despite his five ducks in eight T20I innings in 2026 so far, Abhishek Sharma still remains the World No. 1 T20I batter in the latest ICC rankings. This is largely due to his record-shattering rating points earned earlier in the year, which have given him enough of a buffer to survive this horror run, for now.
While the "Cold Drinks Waiter" tag is a harsh reality on social media, the pressure is at an all-time high on Abhishek Sharma as he will be desperate to trade the "waiter" tray for his bat and finally get off the mark.
