Abhishek Sharma etched his name in the record books by scoring a blistering 28-ball century during Punjab's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy clash against Meghalaya in Rajkot. This sensational innings not only matched Urvil Patel's record for the joint second-fastest T20 century.

Abhishek broke multiple more records in the shortest format. Chasing 143, the 24-year-old smashed an unbeaten 106 off just 29 balls, achieving an extraordinary strike rate of 365.52. His innings featured 11 towering sixes and 8 boundaries, propelling Punjab to victory in just 9.3 overs.

This performance further solidified Abhishek's reputation as one of India's most explosive T20 batters. This was Sharma's fourth century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the most by any player in the tournament's history, surpassing big names like Unmukt Chand, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer.

His 2024 tally now includes a record 87 sixes across 38 innings, eclipsing Suryakumar Yadav's mark of 85 sixes in 2022. The southpaw's remarkable feat places him behind only Estonia's Sahil Chauhan, who holds the fastest T20 hundred record with a 27-ball knock against Cyprus.

Sharma's milestone adds to a growing list of accomplishments in his career, which includes an explosive IPL 2024 season with Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was retained by the franchise for ₹14 crore ahead of IPL 2025, following a stellar season where he struck at a rate of 204.21.
