Two former Pakistan players have been caught with contrasting thoughts regarding India's star batter Abhishek Sharma.
Abhishek Sharma, India's explosive left-handed opener and the world No. 1 T20I batter entering the tournament, has endured a nightmare run at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 so far. In the group stage, he has featured in three matches but failed to score a single run, registering three consecutive ducks.

He was dismissed for a golden duck (0 off 1 ball) against the USA in the opener, then managed 0 off 4 balls against Pakistan, and most recently fell for 0 off 3 balls against the Netherlands, clean bowled by Aryan Dutt. This marks a historic unwanted record as the first batter to record three ducks in their first three innings of a T20 World Cup. Combined with prior low scores, he has five ducks in T20Is in 2026.
Abhishek also missed the match against Namibia for a stomach infection. Sanju Samson replaced him in the match and scored a brisk 22 off just 8 deliveries.
Amid this, two ex-Pakistan players have portrayed Abhishek's form in different ways. Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir criticized Abhishek's lack of form and termed him a slogger.
"By whatever little I have seen, if you ask me honestly, I feel he is just a slogger. He has to go hard at every ball. The day he gets going, it's fine; otherwise, uske failure ke chances zyaada hain (The chances of his failure are high). He scores once in 8 innings. Otherwise, his scores are 10, 15, 0, and 20. I don't think he is technically sound," Amir said after the match against the Netherlands.
On the other hand, another former Pakistan player, Basit Ali, has sharply rebuffed, portraying Amir's sloger remark as a compliment.
"If he is a slogger, then give us one like him - ek humey bhi de do (give us one as well)! It is good that we get such players," Ali said on his YouTube channel.
Abhishek will have a huge challenge ahead of the Super Eight matches. India begin their next round against South Africa on Sunday (February 22) in Ahmedabad, followed by matches against Zimbabwe (Feb 26, Chennai) and West Indies (Mar 1, Kolkata).
