Absence of fifth bowler cost us the match: Sehwag

By Staff

New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) Delhi Daredevils' captain Virender Sehwag said the absence of a fifth bowler hurt his team after the home team went down to Chennai Super Kings by four wickets at the Feroz Shah Kotla here today.

Talking to the mediapersons after the loss, Sehwag said, ''We couldn't fill up the fifth bowler's space and that turned out to be a crucial factor for today's loss.'' Yesterday during a press conference, when Sehwag was asked if he would miss Vettori in today's match. The Daredevils' captain replied in a confident tone, ''For me, we have two very good spinners in Shoaib Malik and Virender Sehwag in our side.'' However, things seemed very different in the match. Both Malik and Sehwag gave away 58 runs in their four overs together.

In the end, two overs from both of them turned out to be the turning point of the match.

''I think the last over itself was the turning point of the match,'' Sehwag said.

Sehwag was taken for 23 runs in his second over by Albie Morkel while Malik proved a little too expensive giving away 15 runs in the last over of the match.

The Daredevils' captain, however, maintain that they had a lot of positives to draw from today's loss.

''Gautam and Shikhar Dhawan played exceptionally well and I believe we had posted a good total as in the last game too we scored 191 and then went on to defend it,'' he said.

He further added that if he had won the toss he too would have chosen to field first.

He claimed that he will still look to give chance to new players and Manoj Tiwary's inclusion in today's playing XI was because of this reason.

''We wanted to try out a few players and will continue to do so.

Today, we wanted to strengthen our batting so as to put up a good total against Super Kings and that why Manoj Tiwary was included today.

''In the next match we might bring in a few changes and Mishra could be included in the playing XI,'' he added.

Meanwhile, Albie Morkel praised his captain Mahender Singh Dhoni for his 33-ball 33 for which which he won the man of the match awars and added that the win will certainly boost his team's morale.

''I Think he (Dhoni) is a great player. It is not an easy task to score 15 runs an over but he managed to do it. Daredevils have a good side and this win will help our confidence,'' Morkel said.
