ACC Women's Emerging Asia Cup 2023: India win inaugural tournament beating Bangladesh

A magnificent bowling performance from Shreyanka Patil and all-around performance from Kanika Ahuja has driven India A to an excellent victory in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup in Hong Kong.

The Indian youngsters defeated Bangladesh in the final by 31 runs on Wednesday (June 21) to lift the inaugural trophy.

India scored 127 for 7 in their 20 overs after batting first. Captain Shweta Shehrawat played well but India's injection in the batting came from Dinesh Vrinda, who scored a fantastic 36 off 29 balls. Kanika Ahuja also remained unbeaten on 30 off 23 balls. Nahida Akter and Sultana Khatun picked up two wickets each for Bangladesh.

In reply, the Bangladesh women were bundled out for just 96 runs, courtesy of some lethal bowling by India's spinners.

Shreyanka Patil was the pick of the bowlers with a stellar figure of 4/13, while Mannat Kashyap also picked up three wickets (3/20). Kanika Ahuja showed her brilliance with the ball by picking up two wickets.

Former India captain Mithali Raj congratulated the youngsters after their stellar trimuph in the tournament.

"Congratulations to these future Indian superstars on their victory in the #WomensEmergingTeamsAsiaCup final! Defending a fighting total, the bowlers were in top form right from the word go, denying the opponents any chance to make a comeback. This triumph marks the beginning of great things to come," she wrote on Twitter.

The BCCI Women's official Twitter page also had a congratulatory message for the young girls, and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah also congratulated the women's team.

Shreyanka Patil was awarded as the player of the tournament for her outstanding performances throughout the course of the competition.
