Adam Gilchrist appointed Australia Day Council boss

By Staff

Melbourne, Sept.9 : Former Australian Test cricketer Adam Gilchrist is the new chairman of the National Australia Day Council.

The National Australia Day Council works with a network of eight state and territory Australia Day organisations and hundreds of local Australia Day committees to inspire national pride and spirit and enrich the life of all Australians.

This relationship is one of partnership, support and cooperation. The network offers opportunities for the National Australia Day Council to provide an overarching vision for Australia Day - implemented and tailored to each state and territory through the expert local knowledge of the state and territory organisations.

The National Australia Day Council (NADC) is the coordinating body for the Australian of the Year Awards and Australia Day celebrations across the nation.

According to The Australian, the council co-ordinates January 26 celebrations around the country including the Australian of the Year awards.

Special Minister of State John Faulkner, who announced the appointment, said Gilchrist would bring enormous energy and commitment to the work of the council.

"He has demonstrated great drive and leadership throughout his professional career whilst maintaining a high standard of integrity," Senator Faulkner said in a statement.

"His passion for Australia and his motivational leadership will be invaluable," he added.
