Adelaide Curator Provides Pitch Report ahead of India vs Australia 2nd Test

By MyKhel Staff

Ahead of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia at Adelaide Oval, pitch curator Damian Hough has revealed that the wicket will feature an even 6mm grass cover. Hough gave pitch updates at a press conference on December 4.

He emphasized that the conditions are designed to offer a balanced contest between bat and ball. The match, beginning December 6, is expected to test players under the lights, especially with the pink ball in play and rain forecasted for the opening day.

"History suggests that it is hard to bat under lights in Adelaide. The pitch will have 6mm of grass. We are trying to produce a pitch that would be a good contest," Hough said, adding that seamers could benefit under specific conditions, but the pitch itself is balanced.

India heads into the Test with a 1-0 lead, following their commanding 295-run victory in Perth. However, they will aim to overcome memories of their disastrous 2020 outing in Adelaide, where they were bowled out for their lowest-ever Test total of 36.

Reflecting on that game, Hough noted, "The pitch did not play a part in the Test match finishing in three days last time India were here. It was really good bowling from Australia."

Hough elaborated on the pitch's characteristics, stating that while it will assist pacers with the new ball, spinners should find some turn and bounce as the game progresses.

"As long as there is something in it for all aspects of the game, I am happy. I just want a good contest," he added. Rain and overcast conditions are predicted for the opening day, with an 88% chance of showers, which could influence swing and seam movement.

"The ball hooping around has got nothing to do with the pitch. Under the right conditions, the ball will move," Hough clarified. With both teams possessing strong bowling attacks, the Adelaide pitch and conditions will play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the India vs Australia 2nd Test.
