Afghanistan have announced their squad for World Cup 2023 on Wednesday (September 13).
After his absence in the Asia Cup, Naveen-ul-Haq is set to rejoin the Afghanistan team for the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India. The team, which comprises 15 members, will be captained by Hashmatullah Shahidi.

It also features the 23-year-old all-rounder, Azmatullah Omarzai, a noticeable absentee from the Asia Cup squad.
Gulbadin Naib, Riaz Hassan, Karim Janat, Sharafuddin Ashraf, and Mohammad Saleem Safi, all previously part of the Afghanistan Asia Cup team, were unfortunately left out of the World Cup selection. However, Naib and Ashraf were chosen as the travelling reserves for the World Cup, supported by Farid Ahmad Malik.
Rashid Khan will be a key weapon for them in the World Cup, while Noor Ahmad and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman are also part of the squad. Former captain Mohammed Nabi is also part of the squad while Fazalhaq Farooqi will spearhead their pace attack.

Afghanistan have been knocked out of the Asia Cup 2023 early after losing to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. They will be playing their opening game of the World Cup against Bangladesh on October 7 in Dharamshala.
