Afghanistan and England have just met thrice, and the Afghans pulled off a stellar victory at the 2023 ODI World Cup. England do have a strong squad and some excellent players but their defeat against Australia was a body blow. On the other hand, the Afghans also suffered a poor loss against the Proteas and will have to be better in the coming match.
England's approach in recent times has been questioned, which was exposed in their series defeat against India. While England boasts a strong batting lineup, their recent inconsistency and bowling challenges, coupled with Afghanistan's potent spin attack, suggest a closely contested match. Afghanistan's familiarity with subcontinental conditions will also play a pivotal role in the tie.
Incidentally, the match will be a knockout match for both teams. After the Australia and South Africa match got washed out in Rawalpindi, the loser of this match will be eliminated from the tournament.
