Afridi may hang up his boots if he fails to perform in Champions Trophy

By Super Admin

Lahore, Sep.12 (ANI): Flamboyant Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi has said he may consider quitting cricket if he does not perform according to his potential in the Champions Trophy beginning September 22 in South Africa.

"If I am not that successful in Champions Trophy, then I may consider quitting the game for good," The Daily Times quoted Afridi, as saying.

Afridi, who has recently been appointed the vice-captain of the team replacing Misbah-ul-Haq, said he is eagerly waiting for the eight nation trophy.

"A lot depends on my performance in the Champions Trophy in South Africa and I am looking forward to this tough event," he said.

Pakistan is placed in group A of the tournament with India, Australia and the West Indies. Afridi has already made it clear that being the ICC World T20 champions, Pakistan will be under tremendous pressure in the Champions Trophy.

"Carrying the tag of T20 World Cup winners into Champions Trophy means there are automatically going to be a lot of expectations from us to do well. The way we won T20 World Cup means we have the ability to win the Champions Trophy, but the only thing is we have to develop mindset to handle pressure as well," Afridi said.

He said there is no additional pressure on him after being appointed the vice-captain, and stressed that he would continue his natural 'boom boom' style during the Champions Trophy. (ANI)
