After Tests, ICC keen to try Review system in ODIs

By Staff

New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) Captain Anil Kumble found a lot of loopholes in the umpire referral system, which was put to trial in the India-Sri Lanka Test series last month, but the ICC gave a clear indication today that the review system would soon be experimented in ODIs before it is given a go ahead signal.

''Yes, we believe the umpire referral system was a success in Sri Lanka and Mahela Jayawerdene has already given us a positive feedback about it,'' International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO Haroon Lorgat told UNI here.

Lorgat said a number of issues were lined up for the discussion during the ICC meeting in Dubai on September 10 one which will be the umpire referral system.

''There will be a meeting in Dubai where all the Board members will present their views on the referral system.

''Kumara Sangakkara will represent the players in that meeting and hopefully a positive decision would come out from the discussion,'' the ICC Chief said.

Lorgat further added that soon the ODIs might will see the referral system so as to minimise the errors in decision making but a final call can only be taken once all the teams agree to it.

''Personally, I am a strong believer of the use of technology in sports.

''Experimenting it in ODIs is very much on the cards but there will be a meeting to see how we can progress about it,'' he noted.

A lot was being said about the ICC's role when various players from different teams raised their voices against staging the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Sri Lanka was an alternative venue for the prestigious event but eventually, the tournament was postponed until Octber next year.

The ICC Chief, however, defended the decision and said, it took the best possible stand under the given circumstances.

''Considering the situation that we were in we took a decision which was unanimously agreed by all the teams.

''In such a short span of time it wouldn't have been possible to stage a tournament of this stature besides there were other logistic problems as well,'' he said.
