Following a highly successful 2024-25 domestic season, Vidarbha are staring at a significant transition as two of their marquee players, Karun Nair and Jitesh Sharma, are reportedly set to move on.
According to Cricbuzz, both cricketers are expected to return to their respective home states, a move that could dent Vidarbha's prospects in the upcoming season.

Vidarbha were one of the most consistent sides across formats this past year. They clinched the prestigious Ranji Trophy title, finished runners-up in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and made a respectable run to the quarterfinals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). However, the imminent departures of Nair and Sharma-both key pillars of the team, signal a major shift in the team's core.
Karun Nair, who had joined Vidarbha after falling out of favour with the Karnataka setup, made an emphatic comeback to domestic cricket this season. The 33-year-old was instrumental in Vidarbha's Ranji Trophy triumph, amassing 863 runs in nine matches-finishing as the fourth-highest run-scorer of the tournament.
His consistency in red-ball cricket was rewarded with a recall to the Indian Test squad for the upcoming England series. Nair also made his mark in white-ball cricket, emerging as the leading run-getter in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with 779 runs. Nair's plaudits in domestic cricket has earned him a place in the Indian side as well.
Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma, who captained Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and played under Nair's leadership in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, is also on the move. As per reports, he is set to sign with Baroda, with the transfer likely to be finalised within the next couple of days. Sharma capped off a fantastic season with winning the IPL 2025 team with his new team Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and then won the Vidarbha Pro T20 league as well.
