South Africa's Aiden Markram and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews have been crowned the ICC Men's and Women's Players of the Month for June 2025, recognising their match-winning exploits on the global stage.
Markram edged out fellow nominees Kagiso Rabada and Pathum Nissanka, while Matthews became only the second cricketer in history to win the ICC Women's monthly award four times, joining Australia's Ashleigh Gardner in the elite club.

Markram earned the accolade on the back of his sensational Player of the Match performance in the ICC World Test Championship Final at Lord's, where he scored a composed 136 off 207 balls in the fourth innings to script South Africa's successful chase of 282 against defending champions Australia.
The 30-year-old opener also contributed with the ball, picking up a wicket in each innings, including that of Steve Smith in the first. The victory marked South Africa's first ICC title in 27 years, making Markram's heroics all the more significant.
Reflecting on the honour, Markram said, "Winning at Lord's was a historic moment, and to contribute meaningfully to South Africa's ICC success makes this award truly special."
Meanwhile, Hayley Matthews continued her dream run with both bat and ball during West Indies' tour of South Africa. She amassed 104 runs across three ODIs, including a fifty in the final match, while also taking four wickets. Her impact grew in the T20I series, where she scored 147 runs at a strike rate of over 120, including two fifties, and picked up two wickets, helping West Indies seal a 2-1 win.
Her consistent excellence earned her the Player of the Series award in the T20Is and now, another ICC honour. Matthews said, "It's always an honour to be recognised globally, but the bigger satisfaction is helping my team win. We're building something special."
The ICC Player of the Month awards are determined through a combination of global fan votes and decisions from the ICC Voting Academy, a panel of journalists, broadcasters, and former players. Markram beat out a strong field, which included Rabada-who took 9 wickets in the WTC final-and Nissanka, who scored centuries in both Tests against Bangladesh.
On the women's side, Matthews outshone South Africa's Tazmin Brits, who also had a century in the ODIs, and veteran leg-spinner Afy Fletcher, who was the leading wicket-taker across both series.
Both winners showcased the versatility, leadership, and consistency needed to shine on the biggest stage, setting the tone for what promises to be a packed international calendar ahead.
