Aiden Markram Names Jasprit Bumrah as Toughest T20I Bowler to Hit

South African T20I captain Aiden Markram has named India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah as the toughest bowler to face in T20 Internationals due to his accuracy and deceptive variations.

In an interview on JioCinema’s Q20s, Markram, known for his aggressive stroke play, praised Bumrah's unique style and pinpoint accuracy, acknowledging the challenge he presents to batsmen, especially in the high-paced format of T20 cricket.

This sentiment was previously echoed by Markram’s fellow South African and middle-order powerhouse Heinrich Klaasen, who also named Bumrah as the toughest T20I bowler he’s faced.

Why Jasprit Bumrah Stands Out for Aiden Markram

Markram’s selection of Bumrah as the toughest bowler to hit is a testament to the Indian pacer's ability to deliver under pressure consistently. Bumrah’s varied skill set, combining accuracy, deceptive slower balls, and his distinctive action, make him a formidable opponent.

Despite being ranked 27th in the ICC T20I bowler rankings due to recent injuries, Bumrah’s ability to execute yorkers and maintain control in death overs has earned him immense respect from batsmen worldwide. Markram’s praise comes as a testament to Bumrah’s enduring influence on the game, especially as he remains a pivotal player in India's bowling arsenal.

Along with Bumrah, Markram also acknowledged Afghanistan's Rashid Khan as another formidable bowler in T20 cricket. He praised Rashid’s unpredictable leg-spin, pointing to his quick arm action and remarkable control over variations, which make it extremely challenging for batters to anticipate his deliveries.

Aiden Markram’s Other T20 Insights

During the Q20s interview, Markram also discussed other aspects of his T20 journey. He hailed AB de Villiers as the 'GOAT’ of T20 cricket and credited Jacques Kallis as his primary inspiration for taking up the sport.

Markram revealed his preference for facing pace bowlers over mystery spinners and shared his fondness for the back-foot punch. Notably, he mentioned that his favourite T20 batting partner was none other than Heinrich Klaasen.

Reflecting on his long and successful cricketing journey during which the 30-year-old won almost 200 caps for South Africa across all three formats, Aiden Markram shared an inspiring piece of advice for his younger self: “Train as hard as you can and enjoy the journey.”
