Air India Plane Crash: A tragic aviation disaster struck on Thursday morning when an Air India flight carrying 242 passengers crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

The aircraft, which was en route to London, went down in a densely populated residential area and crashed at intern doctors' hostel of BJ Medical barely five minutes after takeoff, sending shockwaves across the nation.

Visuals of the crash quickly surfaced on social media, showing massive plumes of dark smoke rising from the wreckage. Emergency response teams rushed to the site, but the scale of the devastation was immense. The crash site was engulfed in fire and debris, making rescue efforts challenging.

Among the 242 onboard, there were 12 cabin crew members. Reports suggest that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also suspected to be on board, although official confirmation is awaited. The passenger manifest included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian.

According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), the pilot issued a distress call moments after takeoff, indicating a possible technical failure. Tragically, the aircraft lost contact and crashed within minutes of that distress signal.

As the nation grapples with the heartbreaking incident, the Indian cricketing fraternity expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the families affected. Prominent cricketers, including Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan and Shikhar Dhawan took to social media to share their grief.

''I am utterly shocked and deeply anguished to learn about the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims and their families who are enduring unimaginable pain and loss. In moments like these, words feel so inadequate, but I hope that those affected find strength, courage, and support. My heart goes out to everyone impacted by this tragedy'', Harbhajan Singh wrote on X.

The IPL franchises also issued collective statements mourning the loss and saluting the emergency response teams working tirelessly at the crash site.
