Ajinkya Rahane becomes fourth India star in six days to register golden duck, Shivam Dube shines again

Ajinkya Rahane on Friday followed the footsteps of his India teammates Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and got out for a golden duck during Mumbai's Ranji Trophy 2023-24 match against Kerala at the St Xavier's College Ground in Thumba.

After Mumbai won the match and opted to bat first, opener Jay Gokul Bista was dismissed on the first ball of the match by Kerala pacer Basil Thampi. Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane walked in at three to stabilise the innings, but himself also got out on the first ball. Mumbai's scorecard read 0/2 in 0.2 overs after the wicket.

Notably, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also registered golden ducks in the 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan. India captain Rohit Sharma got out for a golden duck in the second T20I in Indore.

Virat Kohli was dismissed for a golden duck in the third T20I in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The same match saw Sanju Samson get out for a golden duck as India were reduced to 22/4 before Rohit Sharma's 5th T20I hundred propelled India to 212/4 in 20 overs.

Rahane is eyeing an India comeback and fulfil his wish of playing 100 Test matches for India. The 35-year-old is played 85 Test matches till date.

Shivam Dube shines for Mumbai with fifty

Mumbai were restricted to 251 in 78.4 overs by Kerala in the first innings. The score could have been even low, had opener Bhupen Lalwani (50), Shivam Dube (51) and Tanush Kotian (56) not hit a fifty. The three batters combined together to score 157 out of 251 runs scored by Mumbai.

Shivam Dube picked the Man of the Series award in Bengaluru on Wednesday for his all-rounder performance in the Afghanistan T20Is, and landed straight in Kerala to hit a fifty on Friday.

He would want to chip in with the ball as well to help Mumbai continue their unbeaten run in the prestigious red-ball tournament. Mumbai have thrashed Bihar and Andhra Pradesh in their first two games.
