Akram urges official status for ICL

Lahore, Nov 18 (UNI) Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has urged the ICC to grant official status to the Indian Cricket League (ICL).

According to Akram, the increasing popularity of the rebel T20 tournament and the quality of cricket on display are reasons enough for the game's world governing body to officially recognise the ICL.

''The ICC should sanction ICL and I believe it will have to do that soon. The sort of cricket that is being played in the ICL and the huge crowds its matches are attracting is a proof that the ICL will eventually get recognition,'' the former Pakistan captain was quoted as saying by 'The News'.

Akram added that such a move by the ICC would also benifit the Pakistan team as some of the Pakistani cricketers playing in the league were still at the top of their game.

''Players like Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Imran Farhat, Imran Nazir, Mohammad Sami can still play for Pakistan,'' he opined.
