Mumbai, Dec 15: The players draft for the 2 new franchises of Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held today (December 15) in Mumbai.

Pune and Rajkot are the two new teams which will participate in the league in 2016 and 2017, replacing the suspended Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals.
Both Pune and Rajkot will get to pick a maximum of 5 players each from the draft on Tuesday.
Here is how the IPL players draft works
# Each team can pick upto 5 players
# In all there are 50 cricketers (25 each from Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals) in the draft
# Pune who bid the lowest amount to win the franchise, will have the first choice of picking a player
# No team is allowed to choose more than 4 capped Indian players
# Prices for each player in order of who they pick (However each player picked here will be paid same as what the previous team was paying him) The following amounts are only for current teams' calculations and they might have to pay more
1. Rs 12.5 crore
2. Rs 9.5 crore
3. Rs 7.5 crore
4. Rs 5.5 crore
5. Rs 4 crore
Total: Rs 39 crore
# After the teams pick 5 players each, Rs 39 crore will be deducted from their total purse of Rs 66 crore
# With MS Dhoni being the cynosure of all eyes, Pune are likely to go for him in their 1st attempt
# On an alternate basis, Pune and Rajkot will announce their preference of players from the draft
# There are 33 Indian and 17 overseas players in the draft
# The players auction for 2016 season will be held on February 6 in Bengaluru
