Ambati Rayudu took a pot shot at Virat Kohli after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans trolled him for posting an Instagram story mocking the side for losing the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals and crashing out of the IPL 2024.
Rayudu posted a video on Instagram of CSK players making the gesture of five - signifying the number of IPL trophies won by them. The video was captioned, “Just a kind reminder from the 5 time champions”.

RCB and Virat Kohli fans brutally trolled Rayudu and even reminded him how he was snubbed from India's World Cup squad in 2019. On Friday (May 22), Rayudu came up with a subtle post for the RCB supporters.
The former CSK star started off by saying that he feels for the RCB fans before taking a dig at the management and senior players for focussing on personal milestones. The 38-year-old asked the Bangalore fans to "force" the RCB management to capitalise during the IPL 2025 mega auction by roping in players, who can put team's interest first.
Notably, Virat Kohli is very likely to emerge as the leading run-scorer in the IPL 2024. He finished his campaign with 741 runs in 15 innings. He had scored over 900 runs in 2016 season, however RCB had failed to lift their maiden IPL trophy on that occasion as well. Kohli's 639 runs in IPL 2023 also went in vain.
Ambati Rayudu has been vocal of RCB not retaining match-winning players in the past. The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Heinrich Klaasen, KL Rahul, Travis Head, and Shivam Dube were all part of RCB in the past. Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel, the leading wicket-taker in the IPL 2024, were also released ahead of the IPL 2024 season.
"My heart truly goes out to all the rcb supporters who have passionately supported the team over the years. If only the management and the leaders had the teams interests ahead of individual milestones .. rcb would have won multiple titles. Just remember how many fantastic players have been let go off. Force your management to bring players who will put teams interests first. A great new chapter can start from the mega auction," Ambati Rayudu wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Ambati Rayudu got immediate backing from former India cricketer Hemang Badani, who reckoned that 17 years without a single trophy needs some serious introspection.
"This is coming from a man who has won 6 trophies. He knows what he’s talking. Time Rcb emphasised on players who will win trophies and no I am not targeting any individual player.Just saying 16 years is a long time. Some introspection is the need of the hour. Pls keep this civil,' he wrote on X.
RCB lost seven of their first eight matches in the IPL 2024 before winning six matches on the bounce to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. On Wednesday, Rajasthan defeated them in the Eliminator to end their title hopes once again.
