Amritsar Soormas Win Inaugural Sher-E-Punjab T20 League Title

Amritsar Soormas produced a commanding all-round display to become the inaugural champions of the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League, defeating Ludhiana Lions by eight wickets in the final at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Sunday night.

After restricting Ludhiana Lions to 142 in 20 overs, Amritsar chased down the target with ease, reaching 144/2 in 16.4 overs to clinch the title with 20 balls to spare.

The chase was anchored by Sahaj Dhawan, who remained unbeaten on a composed 63 off 53 balls. Captain Naman Dhir provided the early impetus, smashing 29 from just 12 deliveries, including four sixes, before Rahul Kumar took the Soormas over the line with an unbeaten 42 off 30 balls.

The foundation for the victory, however, was laid by Amritsar's bowlers, who kept Ludhiana's batting unit under sustained pressure throughout their innings.

Mayank Markande was the standout performer with the ball, producing an impressive spell of 3/17 to restrict the Lions to a modest total. His match-winning contribution earned him the Player of the Match award in the final.

The championship also capped a remarkable tournament for Naman Dhir. The Amritsar captain was named Player of the Series after producing some of the competition's most destructive batting performances.

Dhir's standout moment came during the league stage when he smashed a sensational 173 off just 64 balls. He followed that with another explosive knock in the semi-final, scoring 91 off 37 deliveries to propel Amritsar into the title clash.

His consistency and ability to provide rapid starts proved crucial to the Soormas' campaign, while the team's balanced bowling attack ensured they were equally effective with the ball.

In the final, Amritsar combined disciplined bowling with a calm and clinical run chase to complete their campaign in style.
