Andhra Premier League 2024: Awards, Records & Stats From APL Season 3 as Vizag Warriors Clinch Title

Vizag Warriors defeated Uttarandhra Lions by 87 runs in the APL 2024 final on Saturday (July 13) to be crowned the champions of Andhra Premier League (APL), a T20 tournament organized by Andhra Cricket Association (ACA).

After Ashwin Hebbar's unbeaten 91 off 56 balls powered Vizag Warriors to 189/5 in their allotted 20 overs, an all-round bowling effort led by Gangadhar helped bundle Uttarandhra Lions for 102 at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Gangadhar was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 17, while J Saketh Ram (2 for 23), and the leading wicket-taker K Sudharsan (2 for 21) claimed two wickets each. B Yeshwant (1 for 19) and P Manohar (1 for 9) also took a wicket-a-piece.

Defending 190, Ram and Sudharsan pegged back the Lions response inside the first 4 overs, removing S Tarun (13), Mopada Ravikiran (0) and stand-in skipper P Tapaswi (7). However, SV Rahul (9) and Bendalam Satvik (26) steadied ship with a 32-run stand.

While Gangandhar and Yeshwant struck in quick succession, skipper KS Bharat also executed a run out taking inspiration from the Indian legend MS Dhoni to remove Pinninti Tejaswi.

Gangadhar also removed the dangerous Dheeraj Kumar (11) with an assist from Hebbar, who took his second catch of the night to put his team within touching distance from the first title before Manohar and Sudharsan cleaned up the tail.

Earlier put into bat, Hebbar, who finished has the top run-scorer, smashed his fifth fifty of the season with his knock consisting of 4 sixes and 8 fours, taking the top spot for most boundaries in the campaign.

Hebbar carried his bat through the innings, first sharing an 89-run stand with his opening partner B Munish Varma (37 off 27 balls) before another partnership of 36 with skipper KS Bharat, who also added 21 off 14 balls.

For Lions, Yadla Vasu was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2 for 26 in 4 overs, while Bandaru Ayyappa and Sirla Srinivas also picked a wicket each to add to a run out in the final over. Here is a look at the award winners, stats and records:
