Andre Russell is showing no signs of slowing down. At 37, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) powerhouse has his eyes set on a longer IPL career, with plans to feature in the tournament for at least six more years.
This insight came straight from teammate Varun Chakravarthy, who revealed Russell's ambition during a media interaction after KKR's thrilling win against Rajasthan Royals.

Russell played a crucial role in that one-run victory, smashing an unbeaten 57 off just 25 balls. His explosive innings reminded fans of his match-winning prowess and served as a strong answer to critics who questioned his form and fitness at the start of the season.
"As far as I've spoken to him and interacted with him, he still wants to play another two or three cycles of the IPL - which is easily six more years," Chakravarthy said.
Despite the whispers surrounding his age and diminishing impact, Russell's recent heroics show that he's far from done. He arrived in IPL 2025 with speculation swirling about whether this could be his last stint, given his advancing age and the end of the current IPL cycle approaching.
However, his fitness and hunger for the game haven't dipped. Chakravarthy emphasized that performance, not age, is what counts. "He looks fine and fit. It doesn't matter how old you are, as long as you're contributing to the team. That's the mindset. In franchise cricket, no one's going to question that," he added.
Russell also took on the critics who claimed he struggles against spin. Against Rajasthan, he took his time before going after Maheesh Theekshana, proving that he's evolving as a batter and not just relying on brute force.
"That's not true - it's not like he can't hit spin. He can hammer spin; we've all seen it before. Even in net practice, he smashes it. But today, he chose a different approach, and that was very smart of him. I could see that, and I can tell you it's part of his development," Chakravarthy noted.
Thanks to Russell's fireworks, KKR grabbed a vital win to stay alive in the playoff race. With five victories in eleven games, the Knight Riders must win all their remaining matches to stay in contention, beginning with their fixture against Chennai Super Kings on May 7.
While retirement might seem around the corner for a player his age, Russell's mindset suggests otherwise. If he sticks to his plan, IPL fans could enjoy many more years of Dre Russ destruction on the field.
