The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly introduced new guidelines restricting the stay of cricketers' wives and families during overseas tours.
According to a report by Dainik Jagran, the revised rules were decided during a review meeting attended by BCCI officials, captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

The report states that for tours lasting over 45 days, players' families can only stay for a maximum of 14 days. For shorter tours, this limit is reduced to seven days. This marks a return to the pre-COVID protocol, where family presence during tours was limited. The decision was reportedly made to ensure players' focus and team performance are not impacted by prolonged family stays.
Anushka Sharma, often seen in VIP stands during matches and accompanying her husband Virat Kohli on overseas tours, including the recent Australia series, could be affected by this change. Similarly, the presence of other players' wives, like KL Rahul's wife Athiya Shetty, during entire tours might now be restricted.
Additionally, the BCCI has mandated that all players must travel in the team bus, ending the practice of solo travel arrangements regardless of a player's stature. This is aimed at fostering team unity. The report also added restrictions placed on head coach Gautam Gambhir's manager, who will no longer be allowed to stay in the team hotel, watch matches from the VIP box, or use the team bus.
The BCCI's measures come after disappointing performances, including a whitewash against New Zealand at home and a 1-3 series defeat in Australia, signaling an effort to tighten protocols and improve focus during tours.
