Arjun Tendulkar has added a unique chapter to his growing cricketing journey by achieving a rare milestone-one that even his father and cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar never managed in his storied career.
Representing Goa in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the young left-arm all-rounder became one of the very few players to open both the batting and the bowling in the same T20 match.

The special moment arrived during Goa's league clash against Madhya Pradesh, where Arjun walked out as an opener and later took the new ball to start the bowling attack. Previously, Arjun had been used as an early-overs bowler, often starting from the second over, but this game marked the first time he was trusted with the opening delivery-officially qualifying him for a place in the elite record list.
Arjun backed up the faith shown in him with an impressive performance. With the ball, he claimed three wickets while conceding 36 runs from his four overs. With the bat, he contributed a quick 16 off 10 deliveries. Across five matches in the current SMAT season, he has collected 70 runs and eight wickets, showcasing his growing maturity and utility as a genuine all-rounder.
Since shifting from Mumbai to Goa, Arjun has been a regular feature across formats. His domestic career now includes 22 first-class appearances in which he has scored 620 runs-including a debut century-and taken 48 wickets. In List A cricket, he has claimed 25 wickets from 18 games, while his T20 tally now stands at 35 wickets and 189 runs from 29 matches.
In comparison, Sachin Tendulkar-despite being a masterful T20 batter-never opened the bowling in the format. The legendary cricketer bowled just 93 deliveries in 96 T20 appearances and played only one T20 International for India.
As Arjun continues to grow and carve his own identity, this rare achievement highlights his evolving role and potential to become a key modern-day all-rounder.
