In scenes reminiscent of Pakistan's past cricketing triumphs, such as the World Cups and the Champions Trophy, youngsters in Karachi took to the streets, honking car horns and waving placards of Nadeem alongside the national flag.

Hailing from the rural area of Khanewal in Punjab, Arshad Nadeem's journey to Olympic glory has been nothing short of extraordinary. Adding this Olympic gold to his previous accomplishments, including a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and a silver at the 2023 World Championships, Nadeem has firmly established himself as a sporting icon in Pakistan.

Former Test captain Rashid Latif, speaking on the significance of Nadeem's victory, emphasised the broader impact it could have on Pakistani sports.

"I think what Arshad has achieved today will be a big role model for all the youth now to follow him and emulate his achievements in track and field. You will see youngsters now also taking interest in other sports, not just cricket," Latif remarked, highlighting how Nadeem's success could inspire a new generation of athletes in the country.

Ayaz Mahmood, a member of Pakistan's gold medal-winning hockey team from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, expressed his disbelief and admiration for Nadeem's achievement. "At a time when our hockey team has failed to even qualify for the Olympics, Arshad stepped up to keep Pakistan's flag flying high in these games," Mahmood stated, reflecting on the immense pride Nadeem has brought to the nation.
