India is gearing up to launch its World Test Championship 2025-27 campaign with a marquee five-match Test series against England, beginning June 20.
This series is set to usher in a new era for Indian cricket, as it marks the first Test outing since the retirements of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. With the team transitioning into a younger setup, several fresh faces are expected to feature in the squad, including a potential debutant from India's white-ball ranks.

As per a report published by The Telegraph, left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh is on the radar of the national selectors and could find himself named in the Test squad. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel has reportedly advised Arshdeep to stay prepared for a possible call-up. His knack for swinging the ball both ways has caught the selectors' attention, making him a strong contender for red-ball cricket in English conditions.
Interestingly, despite being in contention for the senior Test squad, Arshdeep hasn't been included in the India A team scheduled to tour England ahead of the main series. The A team will face the England Lions in two four-day matches and also take part in an intra-squad match alongside the senior side.
Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing regarding the leadership of the Test team. With pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah likely to skip some of the five Tests due to workload concerns, the search is on for a new captain. The two frontrunners are Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, but the selection committee remains split.
One selector reportedly has reservations about Gill's suitability for the role, citing that the young opener has yet to cement his spot in the playing XI in the longest format. That selector believes Gill may be better suited to serve as vice-captain at this stage, while Pant's return to full fitness and experience behind the stumps strengthens his case for the leadership role.
The upcoming series against England promises not only high-stakes cricket but also the beginning of a transformative phase for Team India.
