Run-machine Steve Smith got back among the runs as Australia finished day 1 of the second Test of the Ashes 2023 against rivals Australia on top at the Home of Cricket - Lord's in London on Wednesday (June 28).
Chasing a victory to level the series, England captain Ben Stokes put Australia into bat with conditions suiting swing bowling, but the visitors fought challenging conditions thanks to opener David Warner's fifty in the first session that saw a lot of interruptions due to rain.

Warner scored 66 before being clean bowled by Joshua Tongue, who claimed two wickets on the opening day. Smith (85 not out) shared stands with Marnus Labuschagne (47) and Travis Head (77) to take Australia to 339/5 at stumps on a sort of start-stop day 1.
Earlier in the series, England had suffered a 2-wicket defeat to Pat Cummins' World Test Champions Australia in the series opening thriller at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham earlier this month.
With summer rains in the air, will the weather interrupt proceedings at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London on Day 2 of the 2nd Test? And will the conditions favour swing or spin? Here we take a look at the London weather forecast ahead of day 2 of the Ashes 2023 second Test:
The weather forecast for London on Day 2 of the 2nd Test says it will be cloudy day with morning rains, possibly delaying the start and interrupting play for most of the day. The max temperature during the day will be around 23° C, which may go down to around 12° C in the night.
Rain Prediction: There is 90 percent chance of rain during the playing hours and in the lead up to the start of play on day 2 - Thursday (June 29). The sky is set to remain cloudy and we may see another start-stop day with interruption.
However, there is no chance of rain in the night leading into day 3 - Friday (June 29) - of the Test. The showers are expected to end at 9 AM Local Time on Thursday (June 29), likely causing delay to start of play on day 2. But the English weather is unpredictable, especially after day 1's forecast.
Wind Speed: There will be wind speed of around 10 to 15 km/hour from the North-northwest direction in the day and turning West-northwest in the night. There is once again prediction for overcast conditions for most of the day.
