Bowlers ensured England finish on top on rain-hit day 3 of the third Test of the Ashes 2023 against rivals Australia on top at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds on Saturday (July 8).

Australia started the day in the only session on day 3, which was affected by rain, with an overnight score of 116 for 4, but were bundled out for 224, meaning the hosts needed to chase down 251 to win the match. England faced five overs of action and added 27 for 0 at stumps.

Despite Travis Head's 77, Australia could add only 108 runs to their total from day 3 as England pacers ran through the rest of the batters. Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad ended with three wickets each, while Mark Wood and Moeen Ali claimed two wickets each.

In the run chase of 251, England openers Zak Crawley (9*) and Ben Duckett (18*) assured they head into stumps unscathed. However, the duo and the rest of the England batters still need to chase down 224 runs to stay alive in the Ashes 2023 series.

Earlier in the series, England had suffered a 2-wicket defeat to Pat Cummins' World Test Champions Australia in the series opening thriller at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham followed by a 43-run loss at Lord's to go 0-2 down in the home Ashes.

The weather forecast for Leeds on Day 4 of the 3rd Test says it will be warm with variable cloudiness and a chance for thunderstorm in the afternoon, according to AccuWeather. The maximum temperature will be 23o C.

Rain Prediction: There is 56 percent chance of rain during the playing hours on day 4 - Sunday (July 9). The sky is set to remain partly sunny early in the match, but it is expected to be cloudy from the noon before a spell of thunderstorm from 5 PM Local Time to 7 PM Local Time.

However, Weather.com predicts 80 percent chance of rain and spells of showers from 2 PM Local time to 8 PM Local Time. So, there is once again chance of interruption, but will not be like on day 3, when two sessions were lost.

With a better forecast for most part of the day, especially in the playing hours, there is chance for a result to be obtained on day 4 of the Headingley Test. England will hope that happens as there is rainy day in-store for day 5.
