Ashes 2023, 5th Test: The Oval London Weather Today Ahead of Day 5

Australia claimed a good position to win the fifth Test against England and the first Ashes series on English soil since 2001 on a rain-hit fourth day - Sunday (July 30) at The Oval in London.

After Stuart Broad and James Anderson's short stay in the morning session took England to 395, setting a target of 384 for Australia to chase down, openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja frustrated the hosts before rain washed out remainder of the day's play.

Warner (58*) and Khawaja (69*) remained unbeaten to take Australia to 135/0 at stumps, leaving the visitors needing another 249 on day five to reel in their target of 384 - a chase that would go down as the second highest by any Australia side and eighth highest in Test history.

Australia have already retained the urn thanks to their 2-1 lead but will be keen to avoid defeat in the final Test as they aim for a first series win in England since 2001. Rain had robbed England of chance of levelling the series in the fourth Test in Manchester.
