Ashes 2023: Did David Warner play his last Test match in Headingley? Wife's 'End of an Era' post suggests so

Ashes 2023: David Warner could just have played his last Test match on Sunday, his wife's Candice Warner's post after Australia's 3-wicket defeat in the Headingley Test on Sunday suggests.

"The end of an era for us touring with test cricket, it’s been fun. Forever your biggest supporters and your girl gang. Love you," Candice captioned a picture in which she can be seen standing alongside her 36-year-old husband and three daughters in the middle of Headingley Stadium in Leeds.

In the third Test of the Ashes 2023, the veteran opener could score 4 and 1 was dismissed by Stuart Broad on both the occasions. Overall, Broad has dismissed the southpaw for a record 17 times now.

Overall, David Warner has scored 141 runs with the help of just one fifty from six innings at an average of 23.50. He has got out for a single-digit score three times in the series and is very likely to be replaced by Marcus Harris in the fourth Test.

Warner has been under immense pressure over the last few months as many have openly criticised his poor Test run and asked for his retirement from the format. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, Warner scored 26 runs in two matches before being ruled out due to injury.

However, the star batter has expressed his desire to retire from the Test format after playing at his home ground in Sydney against Pakistan in January 2024.

“You’ve got to score runs. I’ve always said the (2024) T20 World Cup would probably be my final game (in international cricket).

“I probably owe it to myself and my family - if I can score runs here and continue to play back in Australia - I can definitely say I won’t be playing that West Indies series (which follows Pakistan series in January 2024).

“If I can get through this (WTC final and ensuing Ashes campaign) and make the Pakistan series I will definitely finish up then," Warner said before the WTC final against India.

While Warner may get to bid adieu to Test cricket in Sydney, Candice's post certainly suggests that the third Test in Headingley was Warner's last red-ball game away from home.

Warner, a veteran of 107 Test matches, has scored 8343 runs including 25 hundreds at an average of 44.61.
