Ashes 2023: Marnus Labuschagne injury scare for Australia ahead of Lord's Test

Australia faced a big injury scare on Saturday when their number three batter Marnus Labuschagne got hit on his hand while batting in the nets at Lord's ahead of the first Test.

As reported by CODE Sports, the right-hand batter was left "howling in pain" after one of the throwdowns hit him hard on the hands and forced him to kneel on the ground before the team doctor attended him.

However the number three ranked Test batter in the world resumed batting with Australia assistant coach Michael Di Venuto soon after and looked comfortable.

“He kept on batting so he must've been OK,” Di Venuto said.

“Otherwise he would have walked out. He's got a finger that has copped a couple of knocks. I think he just got another one. He said it felt better because the blood started to flow through or something. So it makes sense if that’s what you want.

“They (Labuschagne and Smith) got wind of a net session that we had organised for the guys that hadn't been playing. They have had a few days off shadow-batting in their rooms. They got itchy feet. So we welcomed them down here to hit cricket balls as they both love doing," Venuto added.

Labuschagne was dismissed for a golden duck in the first innings of the Ashes 2023 opener, while he chipped in with 13 off 15 in the second innings before Australia registered a thrilling 2-wicket in the final moments of Day 5.
