Ben Duckett suspended, fined for bar incident in Perth

London, December 10: Ben Duckett has been handed the maximum fine for an England Lions player and suspended from playing for the rest of their training camp over an incident in Perth.

Duckett was dropped for England's warm-up match against a Cricket Australia XI after pouring a drink over the head of a senior player - reported to be James Anderson - on a night out.

The left-handed batsman was stood down from the Lions squad on disciplinary grounds pending an investigation.

And in a statement the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that Duckett had been "fined the maximum allowable amount for an England Lions player", "suspended from playing for the rest of the current Lions Australian training camp" and "issued with a final written warning in respect of his conduct as an England player."

Duckett will remain with the Lions party until the end of the camp on December 17 and then return to England.

The episode is the latest to mar what has so far been a dreadful tour for England, who trail the five-match Ashes series with Australia 2-0 following defeats in Brisbane and Adelaide.

Ben Stokes is absent while he waits to hear whether he will be charged for his involvement in an altercation that took place in Bristol in September, while Jonny Bairstow's headbutting of Australia batsman Cameron Bancroft prior to the Ashes provided another lamentable distraction.

Duckett has made four Test appearances for the senior team, playing two matches against Bangladesh and two versus India. He scored his maiden Test half-century in his second England appearance in a defeat to Bangladesh last October.
