It has been just over 24 hours since Ravichandran Ashwin's retirement from international cricket and a plethora of possible causes are already flooding in.
Ashwin's abrupt decision to call it quits already raised a lot of questions, with many linking it to his omission from the first Test in Perth. Although a section of pundits have questioned Ashwin's decision in the middle of the series, the player's father believes his son couldn't tolerate the mistreatments.

As the India player reached his Chennai residence on Thursday, the locals and his family organized a massive celebration. His father Mr Ravichandran was seen hugging his son while his mother was in tears. Although Ashwin said his retirement decision was spontaneous, his father has raised the 'humiliation' questions.
"I too came to know last minute, actually. What was going on in his mind, I don't know. He just announced. I too, accepted it with full pleasure. I did not have any feelings at all about that. But the way he gave his retirement, one part I was very happy, another part not happy because he should have continued," Ravichandran said while speaking with CNN News 18.
Ravichandran's remarks suggest that Ashwin's decision might have been influenced by dissatisfaction or perceived mistreatment during the latter stages of his career. He elaborated further, pointing to the emotional toll the situation had on the family.
"(Retiring) is his (Ashwin's) wish and desire, I cannot interfere in that, but the way in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation," Ravichandran added.
The 38-year-old's illustrious career for India ended in an unceremonious and underwhelming way, and Ravichandran thinks it was on the cards as the player was being humiliated and perhaps the threshold of his tolerance broke during the Australia series.
"He was on the field for 14-15 years. The sudden change - retirement - gave us really kind of a shock. At the same time, we were expecting it because humiliation was going on. How long he can tolerate all those things? Probably, he would have decided on his own," he concluded.
Ashwin's retirement has been a mystery so far and his father's allegations towards the Indian team management have questioned the treatment of the senior India players. Reports have suggested the Indian team may undergo a plethora of changes in the coming days and many veteran players may follow suit.
