Bangladesh played a three-match ODI series last month against Afghanistan and faced a humiliating 1-2 defeat amid drama surrounding Tamim Iqbal's shock retirement after the first ODI. After intervention from Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Tamim came out of retirement just 24 hours after the announcement but stepped down from captaincy and ruled himself out of the Asia Cup 2023 due to injury.
