Asia Cup 2023: BCCI provide huge Shreyas Iyer Injury Update amid World Cup conundrum

BCCI has provided fresh update on the injury status of Shreyas Iyer on Tuesday (September 12), ahead of the match between India and Sri Lanka in Asia Cup Super Fours.

Shreyas Iyer suffered an unprecedented back spasm ahead of the Pakistan match on Sunday, which kept him out of the action from the crucial match. Iyer, who returned to the India squad after a long injury lay-off, had a recurrence of his old back trouble, which kept him out of action since March.

And ahead of the Sri Lanka match, the apex body of Indian cricket has given an update on the injury status of the player. A statement from BCCI has cleared that the player is feeling better but won't be available for the Sri Lanka game, and also didn't travel to the stadium with the team.

"Shreyas Iyer is feeling better but is yet to fully recover from back spasm. He has been adviced rest by the BCCI Medical Team and has not travelled with the team to the stadium today for India's Super 4 match against Sri Lanka," the statement from BCCI read.

Iyer's replacement in the last match was KL Rahul, who scored a terrific century in his comeback match against Pakistan. Rahul has kept his place in the team and will be hoping to replicate his run-scoring form.

Iyer has been struggling with his back problems and recently talked about staying in the present in an interview.

"I'm happy being where I am. I'm ticking all the boxes day by day. So happy to be here right now and embracing each and every moment," Iyer said.

The player is included in the World Cup 2023 squad for India and it is to be seen whether Iyer will be able to shrug off his injury ahead of the mega competition.
