Former India batter Gautam Gambhir has drawn fresh controversy in the ongoing Asia Cup. On Monday (September 24), Gambhir, who is currently on commentary during in Asia Cup, was involved in an obscene exchange with some fans.
India are playing Nepal in their final group stage Asia Cup 2023 fixture at the Pallekele International Stadium. The incident took place during one of the rain intervals of the match.

In the India vs Nepal match on Monday, a video was captured where Gautam Gambhir is seen passing by in front of a stand at the Pallekele Stadium. Upon seeing Gambhir, a section of fans started shouting the name of Virat Kohli. Agitated by the 'Kohli, Kohli' chant, Gambhir showed his middle finger to the sets of fans and then was seen walking out with one person accompanying him carrying an umbrella.
The video went viral on social media and although it is an extremely naive reaction from someone who is a former cricketer and commentator, Gambhir pinned it on some anti-Indian supporters.
Gautam Gambhir spoke to media later in the evening and he says there were some anti-Indian slogans which were being uttered by some Pakistani supporters, and he reacted only to that. Gambhir also blamed social media for falsifying facts.
"What is shown on social media has no truth in it because people show whatever they want to show. The truth about the video that went viral is that if you raise anti-India slogans and speak about Kashmir then the person before you will obviously react and not smile and leave. There were 2-3 Pakistanis there who were speaking anti-India things and things on Kashmir. So, it was my natural reaction. I can't hear anything against my country. So, that was my reaction," Gambhir said.
