India coach Rahul Dravid has been asked to join the selection meeting for the Asia Cup 2023 in New Delhi on Monday. He will be joined by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel and India captain Rohit Sharma.
Head coach attending the selection meeting is not common in Indian cricket. Ravi Shastri never attended such meetings, however, the BCCI keeping in mind the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and the following ODI World Cup 2023 must have found it necessary to involve Dravid. Also, Agarkar and Dravid are former teammates and a healthy discussion between them could benefit the team.

The team for the Asia Cup 2023 and the World Cup would remain relatively the same. The stellar comebacks of Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna have solved one of India's major problems already. A lot of depth is there in the bowling department now. Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami would be automatic picks. Shardul Thakur is also certain of being named as a pace-bowling all-rounder alongside Hardik Pandya.
However, the middle-order conundrum remains. The poor form of Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson has not helped the cause. There have been calls to include Tilak Varma in the middle-order. The selection for the Asia Cup 2023 will also bring clarity over the fitness of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.
In the spin department Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav would be top picks. Ravichandran Ashwin has again come back in the picture and there can be an expected toss up between him, Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal.
