The cloud of uncertainty surrounding the Asia Cup 2025 appears to be lifting, with a fresh report suggesting that the tournament is now likely to begin on September 5.
According to TOI, the event will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) despite ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly between India and Pakistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will retain the hosting rights.

This update comes after heightened concerns regarding the tournament's future, especially in the wake of a tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed 26 lives. In retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) - developments that cast doubt on whether the tournament would proceed as planned.
However, it now seems that the Asia Cup will go ahead in a 17-day window, concluding with the final on September 21. The report mentions that India and Pakistan are slated to face each other in a highly anticipated group-stage encounter on September 7.
The 2025 edition will be played in the T20 International format, keeping in line with preparations for future global events. The structure includes an initial group stage, followed by the Super Fours, with the top two teams progressing to the final.
Participating teams include India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and UAE. All cricket boards involved are reportedly in the process of seeking clearances from their respective governments to ensure smooth participation.
Earlier this year, speculation arose that India might pull out of the tournament, with some reports claiming the BCCI had communicated its intent to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia firmly denied such claims.
If confirmed, this development ensures that the Asia Cup returns with full participation, setting the stage for another thrilling India-Pakistan clash in early September.
