Asia Cup: Indian players troubled by '2 lakh' mosquitoes in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Feb 24: Indian cricketers are facing a new problem in Bangladesh ahead of their opening game against the hosts in the Asia Cup Twenty20 tournament here tonight (February 24).

The trouble faced by the Indian players in Bangladeshi capital city Dhaka is not related to the game but attacks by mosquitoes!

Yes. The members of the Indian team were seen practising the art of swatting the mosquitoes away during their cricket training session in Dhaka.

"There are 2 lakh mosquitoes here," quipped Suresh Raina in a video posted by "ABP News" as he tried to avoid being bitten. "Mosquitoes bite us while batting (in the nets)," added Shikhar Dhawan.

Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli too were not far away from trouble as they were seen covering themselves with towels to ward off the threats from flying insects.

During the 2011 World Cup, Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) had formed special teams to ensure mosquitoes did not trouble cricketers.

Before Team India's practice in Dhaka, the Bangladeshi officials had sprayed the venue to ensure a bite-free 'net' session but still the Indian players were not spared.

According to Centres for Disease Control and Prevention website, those travelling to Bangladesh need to take precaution against mosquito bites.

"When traveling in Bangladesh, you should avoid mosquito bites to prevent malaria. You may need to take prescription medicine before, during, and after your trip to prevent malaria, depending on your travel plans, such as where you are going, when you are traveling, and if you are spending a lot of time outdoors or sleeping outside. Talk to your doctor about how you can prevent malaria while traveling," the website said.

Asia Cup runs from February 24 to March 6. India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and United Arab Emirates are in the fray.
